Tetraethyl Orthosilicate TEOS Crosile® SI28

Crosile® SI28 is a monomeric ethyl silicate, also known as tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS). After hydrolysis, it yields 28 wt.% silica, hence the name Ethyl Silicate-28. It has the following chemical formula.

Chemical Properties

Crosile® SI28 is a blend of tetraethoxysilane and polyethoxysiloxane with a mass fraction of silica (SiO2) ranging from 28.8 - 29.5%. Soluble in solvents such as toluene, benzene, and ethanol. Crosile® SI28 is prepared by the reaction of silicon tetrachloride and ethanol.

Application

Manufacture of paint and varnish coatings
Varnishes and paints with good adhesion to glass.
Components for preparing non-stick coatings.
As a binder component in heat-, chemical- and weather-resistant coatings, and in other fields that require water-insoluble, corrosion-resistant solid materials after hydrolysis, drying, or firing in alkaline media. High temperature resistance, non-corrosive.
Crosile® SI28 is used as a modifier additive in enamels (additive in paints). Forms a fast-drying, heat-resistant, water-repellent film with low shrinkage and stable gloss.
As a modifying additive for parquet paints and varnishes, it reduces preparation and drying times, while reducing natural oil consumption and improving the quality of the paint film.
Crosile® SI28 additive for urea-formaldehyde varnishes reduces varnish consumption and increases varnish activity by a factor of approximately 10 in mixtures with hardeners.
Used to rapidly increase the hardness of rosin varnishes on highly polymerized oils, glass varnishes, and alkyd resin solutions.

For film manufacturing, packaging - provides transparency, creating a "gas barrier" in food packaging (i.e., products in packaging produced with the Crosile® SI28 additive retain their freshness longer and extend shelf life).

Crosile® SI28 is used in the foundry industry as a raw material for binders in the manufacture of ceramic moulds (investment casting technology, ceramic mould casting).

Carbide parts that are difficult to stamp, roll and forge are made with ethyl silicate additives.
 
Glass Manufacturing
The modifying additive Crosile® SI28 imparts a hydrophobic effect to the glass, mechanical and chemical resistance, light scattering.
Improves appearance and protects glass surfaces from corrosion.
Composition of glass, mirror, crystal cleaner.
The treated surface achieves a stable gloss, easily removes dirt and improves visibility.
