The Alpha Methyl Styrene resin is the monomer petroleum resin obtained by the copolymerization of α-methyl styrene and the second monomer. AMS Resin is a water-white, transparent, low-molecular-weight thermoplastic resin with a softening point of 80–150 °C. Compatible with numerous polymers, it lowers processing temperatures by 15–20 °C while markedly improving peel strength, hardness, and aging resistance. Low-odor and low-VOC, it is widely used for tackifying, reinforcing, modifying, and eco-friendly formulations.

Application

1. PSA & HMA: acts as a tackifying resin, instantly boosting peel strength and heat resistance.

2. Plastic modification: processing aid for PVC/TPU extrusion & injection, lowering melt temperature, improving flow and stiffness.

3. Rubber tire: tread moisture-resistant modifier that enhances wet grip and reduces heat build-up; also reinforces TPE, wire coatings, ionic elastomers.

4. Coatings & specialty molding: increases gloss, abrasion resistance and drying speed while serving as a reinforcing filler.

In the synthetic rubber industry, DPR is used as emulsifier in the producing of various products including styrene-butadiene rubber, chloroprene rubber, acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene rubber. Using DPR as an emulsifier, rubber product will improve in cohesion, and the endurance to heat will increase for 25%. The endurance to both abrasion and laceration of this rubber is better than ordinary styrene-butadiene rubber. The cohesion will be greatly enhanced if blended with natural rubber.
