Hydrocarbon Resin C5(Aliphatic C5 Resin)
C5 Resin (C5 hydrocarbon resin) is a low-molecular-weight, aliphatic thermoplastic obtained by cationic polymerization of the C5 fraction (isoprene, piperylene, cyclopentadiene, etc.) produced during petroleum cracking. It comes as pale-yellow to water-white granules with a softening point of 80–110 °C and is odorless and non-toxic.
Key features:
- Excellent compatibility with natural rubber, SIS/SBS, EVA, APAO and other elastomers
- Markedly boosts tack, peel strength and low-temperature performance
- Resistant to acids, alkalis and water; good electrical insulation
Main applications:
1. Hot-melt adhesives (packaging, hygiene, labels) – provides tack and open time
2. Pressure-sensitive adhesives (tapes, stickers) – adjusts peel force
3. Road-marking paints – improves adhesion of glass beads and wear resistance
4. Tires and rubber goods – acts as tackifier/plasticizer
5. Construction sealants and waterproof membranes – enhances flexibility and adhesion
In short: C5 resin is the “tack catalyst” that makes adhesives, paints and rubber stick faster, stronger and longer.
