The specific applications of silane coupling agents in the adhesive industry are as follows:

①In the bonding of metal and non-metal in structural adhesive, if silane-based tackifier is used, it can condense with metal oxide, or condense with another silanol, so that the silicon atom is in close contact with the surface of the object and is adhered. For example, adding silane as a tackifier in nitrile phenolic structural adhesive can significantly improve the bond strength.

②Silane is widely used as a treatment agent for bonding glass fibers at home and abroad. It can chemically react with the interface, thereby increasing the bond strength. For example, the peel strength of neoprene adhesive is 1.07kg/cm2 if silane is not used as treatment agent, and the peel strength of adhesive is 8.7kg/cm2 if aminosilane is used as treatment agent.

③ Silane tackifier has a special role in the adhesion of rubber and other materials. It significantly improves the bond strength of various rubbers and other materials. For example, when glass and urethane rubber are glued together, the peel strength of the glue is 0.224 kg/cm2 without the use of silane as a treating agent, and 7.26 kg/cm2 when silane is added.

④Adhesion problems that cannot be solved by ordinary adhesives can sometimes be solved by silane coupling agents. Such as aluminum and polyethylene, silicone rubber and metal, silicone rubber and plexiglass, according to the chemical bond theory, select the corresponding silane coupling agent to obtain a satisfactory solution. For example, vinyl triperoxide butyl silane can be used to bond polyethylene to aluminum foil; the use of butadienyl triethoxy silane can give silicone rubber to metal peel strengths of 21.6-22.4 kg/cm2.

Using general adhesives or resins with coupling agents can not only improve the adhesive strength, but also increase the water resistance and durability of the adhesive. For example, polyurethane and epoxy resin have high adhesion to many materials, but the adhesion durability and water resistance are not ideal; after adding silane coupling agent, the performance in this area can be significantly improved.
