Silane coupling agent is our commonly used chemical auxiliaries. Do you know all its functions?

The following will introduce the role of silane coupling agent:

 

1. Crosslinking

Once the silane is grafted into the polymer backbone, it can link polymer molecules together by forming siloxane bonds to form a three®dimensional network. This "crosslinking" is activated by ambient moisture, and this activation occurs at room temperature. Crosile silanes provide improved thermal stability, creep resistance, hardness and chemical resistance for coatings, adhesives, sealants and composites.

 

2. Improve adhesion

Crosile silanes provide better substrate adhesion for adhesives, sealants and coatings, especially in hot and humid conditions. Silanes are commonly used to improve adhesion to glass, minerals, and metals, and are also suitable for difficult substrates such as polyamides, sheet molding compounds (SMC), acrylics, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and more.

 

3. Coupling

Crosslinking silanes can couple inorganic pigments and fillers with organic resins. Silane Coupling Agent often improves the moisture and chemical resistance of coatings, adhesives or composites.

 

4. Decentralization

Crosslinking silanes aid in the dispersion of inorganic pigments and fillers in coatings and sealants. Good dispersion generally results in lower viscosity of the final product, higher retention of pigments and fillers, and improved hiding power of the coating.

Choice of Silane coupling agent

The functions of silane coupling agents vary widely. The basic point of choosing silane is that it has the activity of reacting with resin, so as to realize its value:

Corsile®1891 3- Mercaptopropyltriethoxysilane 14814-09-6 Corsile1891 can markedly improve tensile strength, tearing strength and abrasive resistance and reduce compression set of vulcanizates.It can reduce the viscosity and improve the processability of rubbet products.
Corsile®189 3- Mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane 4420-74-0 Has special effect on the metal surface rust inhibitor. With its thiol functional group, it can strengthen the surface corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance and increase the adhesion with resin, when face gold, silver and copper surface processing.
