ECOPOWER Crosile® 1298 is an oligomeric siloxane containing vinyl, propyl and ethoxy groups.

Crosile® 1298 is a further development of Crosile® 172, vinyl-tris(2-methoxy-ethoxy) silane.

Crosile® 1298 is a colourless, nearly odorless low-viscosity liquid. Crosile® 1298 is an excellent silane compatibilizer between inorganic fillers (e.g., kaolin, MDH, ATH) and organic polymers (EPDM, EVA, PE).

Vinyl Silane Polymer Crosile® 1298

Crosile®1298 is a further development of Crosile® 172, vinyl-tris(2-methoxy-ethoxy) silane.

 

Chemical Properties

Vinyl Silane Polymer Crosile® 1298 vinyl oligomeric siloxane is excellent as an adhesion promoter in mineral filled, peroxide-crosslinked compounds. The silicon-functional ethoxy groups of Crosile® 1298 hydrolyse in the presence of moisture, which is usually present on the filler surface, forming active silanol groups. The condensation of these silanol groups with hydroxyl groups on the filler surface leads to a tight chemical bond between Crosile® 1298 and the filler. The vinyl functional end of Crosile® 1298 can be coupled to the polymer in a further reaction that runs parallel to peroxide crosslinking.

A major field of application for mineral-filled compounds is the cable industry. EPDM and kaolin can be processed into cable compounds through the adhesion promoting and hydrophobic effects of Crosile® 1298. It can also be used in the manufacture of halogen-free, non-toxic, environmenflame-retardantlame retardant compounds (HFFR) based on EVA or PE and ATH or MDH. In addition, Crosile® 1298 can be used in many other applications such as filler and pigment treatment, use in dispersions etc.

Application

Typical property improvements obtained by using Crosile® 1298 in filled polymers are:

- Improve filler dispersion

- Increase hydrophobicity and results in improved electrical properties, especially when exposure to wet air

- Increase in maximum filler  

- Increases the creep behavior as the temperature increases

- Improved chemical resistance

- Higher tear strength

- Higher impact strength  

- Higher wear resistance

- Strongly reduced tendency to crack under pressure
